• Rating, 26%. The clinic's aggregate star rating on Google.
• Volume, 20%. How many reviews a business has, log-scaled so a business with 400 reviews doesn't automatically dwarf one with 40 just because of raw count, but still doesn't let five reviews outrank hundreds.
• Recency, 13%. How recently people have actually left reviews. A clinic that hasn't been reviewed in two years tells you less about today's care than one reviewed last month.
• Completeness, 13%. Whether basic listing information is present and accurate: phone number, website, hours, and address.

Why sentiment carries the most weight

Two chiropractors can sit at the same 4.5-star average and mean very different things. One might have a spread of minor, unrelated gripes. The other might have a cluster of recent reviews all mentioning the same problem: rushed adjustments, billing surprises, a receptionist who never answers the phone, or long waits past the booked appointment time. A star average flattens both cases into an identical number. Reading what people actually wrote is the only way to catch a pattern like that before you book, which is why sentiment is weighted above the raw star rating itself.

Why the other signals matter

Rating still matters because it's the aggregate judgment of everyone who left one, and it's a fast cross-check against our sentiment read. Volume matters because a rating built on 6 reviews carries far less certainty than one built on 150, so we scale it logarithmically rather than linearly. Recency matters because chiropractors change: new practitioners join, ownership shifts, service quality moves. A glowing review from 2019 says little about a visit booked this month. Completeness matters in a more practical way: a clinic missing its phone number or hours is harder to actually use, whatever its care quality.

The honest limits

This method has real boundaries and we'd rather state them than hide them. Businesses with few recent reviews produce a shakier score, since one or two write-ups can swing sentiment and rating heavily; we label these as low-confidence rather than presenting them with false precision. We synthesize themes from reviews rather than republishing them verbatim, and we always link out to the source on Google so you can read the original reviews yourself and form your own judgment. A composite score is a starting point for research, not a substitute for it.

Scores are earned, not sold

Every score comes from this rubric and the underlying data alone, and it is never edited by hand. Where paid placement exists on this site, it is always labelled clearly and never changes a business's score. If any list on this site involved editor-reviewed picks or ordering rather than pure scoring, that is disclosed on the list itself.
